The fighting resumed for the second day in a row between the Free Army factions on the one hand and the Assad forces backed by Iraqi militias on the other in the Syrian Badia in eastern Qalmoun area in rural Homs.
The factions there responded to several attacks by the Assad forces on the axis of "Tal Makhoul" south of the Sein military airport in the countryside of Damascus in an attempt to advance on the Free Syrian Army-held areas, according to field sources noting that FSA managed to destroy a tank and an armored vehicle with militants inside belonging to the Iraqi militia.
Assad forces are trying to keep up their progress after they took control of the areas of Khnevis, Sawana and the phosphate wells, which Iran signed their investment agreement about a year ago from the Syrian regime.
The areas mentioned above, in addition to Jabal al-Mahasa, Sawaneh al-Mahasa, Jabal Zaqqiya Khalil, Qasr al-Halabat, the rocket battalion, and Tal al-Fari, IS militants had withdrawn from for the benefit of the Assad forces. This led to the siege of the areas of Jeroud, Nasiriyah and Jabal al-Nafi'i.
In parallel with attempts to advance south of Sein airport, the Assad forces are also trying to put pressure on rebel areas in the eastern Swaida countryside, where battles are taking place near the Zulf dam. Yesterday, the regime lost a tank and an armored vehicle, as well as artillery and a number of soldiers.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian regime and the backing Iraqi militias as well as Iranian advisers and a Russian air cover announced a few days ago about the battle "Big Dawn" and aims to reach the crossing on the border on the Syrian-Iraqi border in preparation for the heading towards the city of Deir al-Zour..
